I have requested engaging and up to date books for our classroom. We will partner read and silent read every day. We will have book discussions, do book reports, presentations, and slideshows. Many students do not have reading materials in their homes. Our classroom is a place to promote the love of learning and reading for the sheer joy of it. Reading good literature is the perfect way to teach good grammar skills, spelling, sight words, and writing, especially dialogue writing. A good book can even tie into math, science, and social studies standards. There are so many teaching and learning opportunities when a library is available right there in your own class.
