Many of my students have expressed their frustration with working with the school-provided Chromebooks, especially when it comes to reading because they are straining their eyes. I want to go into a poetry unit that involves the book, "The Poet X" by Elizabeth Acevedo. There's an Actively Learn edition of it, but it's rather difficult to read and doesn't follow the same formats that are provided in the physical edition of the book. By the end of the unit, the students will have a better understanding of the importance of poetry and will eventually create their own spoken-word poems that they'll perform in front of their classes. In order to make reading easier and more personable for my students, I want to give them physical copies that they can easily access in class without worrying about straining their eyes from reading from their computers. Not every material that we give to our students needs to be digitalized, especially because everything they read is online now, anyways. I want to give my students access to a physical copy of the book, not only because it's better on their eyes to be able to read it, but also the fact that the book's content is easier to grasp in the physical copy due to the verse-style format that the book follows.
