Performing in a concert band is one of the most life-changing adventures that a person can experience; students that participate in band programs not only learn to work together as a team, but learn important life skills such as responsibility and independence while crafting a successful performance. Unfortunately, there are several materials that are necessary for students to be successful in a band program, and these materials quickly become a financial burden on students and their families. Woodwind players (clarinets, saxophones, etc) use wooden reeds on their instruments in order to produce the beautiful sound that is characteristic of these instruments. These reeds are not only quite delicate, but quite expensive. With the appropriate reeds included within this project, students can successfully rehearse and refine music within the classroom environment. (Music Traditional Ensembles Creating- Anchor Standard 3). Students in band also utilize a variety of tools in order to maintain tempo throughout rehearsal; the speaker found within this project will help students utilize metronomes and tuners in class, thus developing and refining musical works for future performances (Music Traditional Ensembles Performing- Anchor Standard 5).
The materials within this project will help students to not only be successful in the classroom, but successful in their independent practice at home.
