Being that this is the first year STEM is being offered at our middle school and STEM being new on the scene at many schools, I have been working on putting together a curriculum that works for our students. Middle school students are the perfect age and are extremely excited to work with Legos. I would like to use this opportunity to add Lego Education into our curriculum. Lego Education offers educators and students the opportunity to use purposeful play in the classroom to learn specific skills that students will need for life outside of school. The BricQ Motion Prime Set engages students in physical science by providing a hands-on learning experience. This set uses a sports context to teach the physical science objectives which makes this set relatable to middle school students. The BricQ Motion Prime Set can be combined with other Lego Education sets to scaffold and meet the needs of all students. Students will benefit from this set by fostering a hands-on understanding of forces and motion. The Lego set will challenge students to apply their scientific inquiry skills to provide evidence of the change in an object’s motion based on force and mass. Students will also be able to apply Newton’s three laws of motion and design a Lego representation to demonstrate the concepts. MS-PS2-2 and MS-ETS1-2 standards will be addressed in the 8+ lessons of the Lego Education system.
