These resources will promote Nevada Academic Content Standards and fulfill a COVID-related instructional need in my class by having students take ownership over their own learning. With the large pieces of furniture, it will allow our classroom environment to be arranged and organized in a way that promotes students to independently decide what learning materials they need to be successful. After properly sanitizing their hands, students will be able to grab the math manipulatives they need from the zipper pouches and extra-large toy shelf to solve math problems, as the materials will be easily accessible to them in the classroom. (Math 1.NBT.C.4 and SMP #4 - Model with mathematics) The classroom chair pouches will allow students the chance to keep all their independently leveled books at their seats. (ELA 1.RL.10/1.RI.10) To build their social/emotional learning, students will be able to read to their stuffed animal moose "reading buddy" while sitting on one of the couch cushions. (ELA 1.RL.10/1.RI.10). The student sitting tray will allow students the chance to take their writing around the classroom; whether that be in a spot more comfortable to them, or to move closer to the SMART board/anchor chart from their seat.(W.1.5)
