I will use resources to give students access to a variety of texts. For example, I can scan an excerpt from a text to share with students. The file will be a pdf for learners to access excerpts on or offline. I can teach students the text in the online class; we will examine meaning, and more. Using the document camera I can model how to analyze text through annotations. These resources will aid in reading comprehension which relate to reading standards in both literary and informational text. Text I would like to examine include: Martin Luther King Jr, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, Phineas Gage, Dickens, Shakespeare, Calling of the Wild, The Breadwinner, The Westing Game. These are just some items I can scan excerpts from & share with students. I will also be able to scan and share excerpts from articles, magazines, & more. These resources promote the Nevada Academic Standards, reading standards: RL.6.1-6.10 RI.6.1-6.10 RL.7.1-7.10 RI.7.1-7.10 RL.8.1-8.10 RI.8.1-8.10 Overall GOALS: "By the end of the year, read and comprehend literary nonfiction in the grades 6-8 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range." "By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poems, in the grades 6-8 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the year.” The whiteboard will be used to teach reading & writing. The four types of writing which will be modeled on board include: expository, narrative, argumentative, & research. I will use the board to take students through writing process, which relates to all writing standards. The bookmarks will increase engagement, and help students mark their reading and note taking journey. Help our online English classroom achieve these academic goals.
