Although some of the work the students produce in these journals will undoubtedly lead to more developed, multi-draft pieces of writing, the Nevada Academic Content Standards that the project most directly and obviously addresses are ELA 9-10.10 Range of Writing and ELA 11-12.10 Range of Writing. The idea is that an inspirational journal and a quality pen will give each student a personalized place to go to reflect on the events and circumstances of their lives in the context of an ongoing pandemic and social, economic, and political turmoil. The supplies will provide the students with an opportunity to build a writerly habit that can serve them academically, socially, and emotionally.
