This year, my grade level is using a writing program that provides our students will lots of opportunities to begin writing with a solid foundation. Our writing program uses a variety of mentor texts for us to provide examples of our writing foundational skills; beginning with illustrations and details, adding labels, taking labels and adding more details to build a sentence, and continuing to add details to make amazing stories. Our little authors need to have these books in their hand to truly benefit from what the author intended. Additionally, my school is making a big push this year to provide our students with more project based learning and ways for students to build and create within our academic day. In order to meet the needs of STEM/project based learning my classroom is in need of HANDS-ON activities that students can manipulate. Some of the standards we hope to incorporate with these things are: RL.K.3-With prompting and support, identify characters, settings, and major events in a story. RL.K.7- With prompting and support, describe the relationship between illustrations and the text in which they appear (e.g., what person, place, thing, or idea in the text an illustration depicts). RF.K.4- Read emergent-reader texts with purpose and understanding. SL.K.1-Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about kindergarten topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups. SL.K.2-Confirm understanding of a text read aloud or information presented orally or through other media by asking and answering questions about key details and requesting clarification if something is not understood. K-2-ETS1-2-Develop a simple sketch, drawing, or physical model to illustrate how the shape of an object helps it function as needed to solve a given
