When I first started teaching, I had a large classroom library that students could check out books from to use both in class and at home. These books gave my students a view of the world around them and of themselves. These books expanded my students' learning in fun and exciting ways. Due to unforeseen circumstances, my entire classroom library was discarded and many of my students do not have access to books at school or at home. My students have been through many challenges already as 7 and 8-year-olds. Many have moved to a new country with a new language, they have already been dealing with a pandemic, and they are still being expected to learn. One way I can foster a love for learning while helping them understand their thoughts, emotions, and experiences is by providing a library of books that they can have access to both at school and to take home.
