L.K.1. states students should demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking. Learning the letters of the alphabet and their sounds will establish the core learning necessary to help my students begin to read words and sentences. Using floor time on the alphabet carpet adds a diverse learning environment from simply working on worksheets and with the whiteboard. Using writing paper will help students on the formation of the uppercase and lowercase letter writing skills where they were using computers during online instruction due to COVID. Holding pencil to paper assists in developing fine motor skills necessary at this age. The Magnetic easel will allow for another center to drive home the same concepts through another learning environment. The Magnets will have both letters and numbers to work on both standards my students are learning for English and Math. Alphabet cards and phonics cards allow for interactive hot dot application to engage students in yet another method to learn the same standards. After practicing letter names and sounds, we will move on to the leveled readers to apply our learned skills to reading books. K.CC.A.3 states that students will write numbers 0-20. My K-2nd graders are still learning to do these standards and need as many resources as possible to help them catch up on learning so they may scaffold it into their grade level standards. The Match It Early Math skills set allows for another learning technique in our math centers. The magnet numbers and easel will serve as another center activity to focus on learning to read and write numbers 0-20 and begin addition within 20. Many of my students have attention challenges and could benefit from the bouncy bands to help maintain their focus.
