These past few years has been a new adventure in education. Part of our job as educators is to adapt, be more flexible and encourage our students where they are at. Flexible seating, sensory and tactile learning tools are an invaluable way to help students find the very best version of themselves. Most of our students are struggling with the early grades, as they lack the Social, Emotional and Developmental skills they would have, through learning in pre-COVID times. My students need the fun back in school. They find their grit, their passion for giving their best when they have something to earn that matters. I have a small classroom space, where I have 26 AMAZING little leaders trying to pave their own way in the world. Given the opportunity I would love to be able to meet all my students needs where they are, and with whatever challenges they face to help them rise to this new educational journey. These sensory objects have a profound effect in students through their speaking/listening and focus. Due to the small classroom space, the seat sacks will provide extra time and focus on classroom work without transition time or distracted movements in the classroom. This will allow all students a more equal opportunity to have stamina in the classroom. My students have GRIT when they have opportunities to flourish in non-traditional methods, such as flexible seating, sensory toys while having collaborative conversations, and sharing ideas with one another.
