Our school library has very limited Graphic Novels that the students are clamoring to read. Sometimes graphic novels are the stepping stones for students to build a life long love of reading. Also, lower level readers are more engaged in their reading because the pictures help understand or figure out what harder words are which builds their reading vocabulary. Graphic Novels are engaging and captivating for my students! They pull the students in visually and keep their attention. Which is a really big draw for reluctant readers. The experience with the images help them learn to use their imagination to picture the story in their heads while reading a regular book. We really need more Graphic Novels to keep them engaged and wanting to read more.
