Our school has a tradition of offering students the opportunity to join a club. These groups meet once a week. We believe these clubs help to promote a stronger sense of community within our school. They also increase student engagement and enthusiasm. We want all children to feel great about themselves and enjoy being at school. Clubs are a great way for students to use various skills that they may not use during the regular school day. Some children serve as experts for the club because they bring a wealth of experience. Other children join a club hoping to learn a new skill or learn about new ideas. We have found that children love hands-on activities. They are easily engaged with their peers when creating a product and working together. For this reason, we would like to start a "Young Engineers: LEGO Construction Club". Teachers will meet with club members to help them complete unique challenges that involve building, creative thinking, cooperative work, and problem-solving.
