Special Education students need to be taught differently. Due to the social effects of Covid, literature is a great way to teach social emotional learning. Reading theater and high interest reading helps these students understand social concepts. They are then able to apply these concepts through interacting with other peers. Special education students want to be like their peers. They have a strong desire to fit it. Using reading as a tool to get there is beneficial both academically and socially for these students. Having items like a portable easel or podium and flexible seating allows the teacher to instruct in small group settings. These items will be used to support the following standards: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.1 CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.2 CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.3 CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.4 CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.5 CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.6 CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.7 CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.8 CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.9 CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.10
