Calculators are a must when learning high school math. Student learning involves more in depth problem solving. Many of my students do not have a calculator of their own. Although I have requested they get one, many do not. Many of them cannot afford them. I have purchased 10 on my own, however, I need a classroom set so every student can have one to use in class. They need to know how the functions of a calculator work and familiarize themselves with them so when doing math problems, they can focus on the problem at hand instead of the basic math skills. In addition, learning how to use the different functions of the calculator help them prepare for tests such as the MCAS and SAT as well as college. Teachers Pay Teachers offers multiple learning activities that enhance student learning. Offering different activities allows me to support the different types of learners in my classes. Puzzles are a great resource. They are a fun and engaging activities that helps student learn to problem solve. I have different levels of learners in my classes. I am able to use puzzles when students finish their classroom early.
