These supplies can help students both at home and in the school environment. They are tactile learning supplies. When we were hit with the pandemic last year, educators were left with the question of how do we bring communal supplies home to students. My school started a backpack program where our hardest-hit students were supplied with a backpack stuffed full of school (paper, pencils) and art supplies (colored pencils, markers, paint). They were given school supplies to help them with the tactile feel of learning, and art supplies to let their creative juices flow. It was also a way to help those students who needed help with basic assistance, without singling them out.
