These umbrellas will cover three picnic tables located outside adjacent to my classroom. The student will use laptops, read books and articles, have discussions, and do art projects in the fresh air. Research supports the following benefits of an outdoor classroom setting: "an improved attitude, sense of self, independence, confidence, creativity, decision-making problem-solving skills, empathy towards others, self-discipline, and initiative." Outdoor learning leads to improved behavior, attendance, and less stress for the stakeholders. Most of all, teaching and learning in an outdoor setting will be fun for everyone!
