Our school was recently approved to have a certified therapy dog! Our school therapy dog will work in school alongside me, his handler, as the Social Emotional Learning Dog. He will help support the social emotional development and needs of our students through animal assisted interventions (AAIs) and animal assisted activities (AAAs). These materials are important to the program because they will ensure that our social emotional learning dog is prepared to work with students. These materials will also help students have a positive experience working with our social emotional learning dog. We are very excited to create a social emotional learning dog program that will support the social emotional development and needs of our students. Our social emotional learning dog will need a place to rest in between sessions with students, so a dog bed is essential. He will also need treats to reinforce learning with students and behavior and a pouch for his handler to carry them in. Wipes will help ensure that our social emotional learning dog is clean. The pet tag silencer will create less distractions and noise for students. The books will be used by students during animal assisted interventions and activities, for example understanding what a therapy dog does and reading with the social emotional learning dog.
