Fostering a love of reading among students is crucial in creating life long readers and learners. However, today, it is so hard for students to find a book that will capture their interest over the many other forms of media fighting for their attention. Our school does not have an extensive library or a full time librarian to help them figure out what they might want to read. Students often have a hard time making those choices. Hollywood, however, has a history of finding great books to turn into movies, and I want to share those beloved tales with my students. Not only are these books widely known for being great, but my kiddos will be even more engaged when they can follow up reading the book with a movie or tv show based off of it. This is one way to use the various forms of media to build readers rather than block them.
