All of my students are new to English. My goal is to get the books that they are interested in and games that can meet them where they are. We can use these as tools to acquire new vocabulary, gain reading fluency, and make a more student-centered learning environment. I want to honor their interests, home language and need to have fun and bond as groups so that they can become not only fluent in English but also life-long learners. It's through English that they are going to have equal access to their other classes. The items I chose are games that support language development and books. These books will aid comprehension of the students' other classes, introduce them to the US, or are books that the students have mentioned repeatedly as something that they want desperately to read. The pencils are also necessary because my students have already gone through 150 of mine; we write a lot.
