You can't draw what you can't see is a basic concept of teaching young artist the idea that you must only draw what you can see. Students who struggle with this perspective need a strong tool to help them clearly understand and learn to see that to draw. Through the use of a high-quality camera lucida product the students can actually see the objects that they are attempting to draw or paint from a still life image. The use of this instrument will enhance the drawing experience for all students, more especially those who struggle with seeing 3D objects in a 2D format. The lucy product will allow students to project the image onto their paper in a way that allows them to master the concept of shape, foreshortening, and perspective. The instrument will also show students the best method of transfer when drawing portraits and attempting hard challenging views of the face, hands, and movements. Proper tools for drawing include keeping those tools in working order. The use of a commercial pencil sharpener will aid students in keeping their drawing tools sharp and in good order to draw correctly.
