My office has been a valuable, relaxing resource for our students. The office has a bulletin board for school announcements, a small collection of books that students can check out and borrow, three bins for sweet snacks, savory snacks and miniature bottles of water. These supplies will help students who are hungry or stressed get through the school day whether they missed breakfast, had lunch too early or, need a brain break from learning all day. Hunger and personal stress often get in a way of a student's attentiveness and focus in class, so I want to do my part to get my students back in the classroom and ready to learn. Many of our students are coming back to school after a tough 1.5 years at home. Some students experienced grief and loss, other students got really sick or knew someone close to them that did, while several became caregivers for siblings or relatives. My students are readjusting back to in person learning with varying difficulty. These sensory manipulatives, snacks and books will add to the counseling office's as tools for students to access during class or when they feel stressed about school or personal life circumstances. Our students need an outlet to release pent up tension they are feeling in their bodies so safely remain in classrooms. Any way I can help build and restore relationships with students will be essential to their well-being during this transition period. Let’s work toward healing!
