My students will learn the Element of Value by using stippling. Stippling is the technique that applies many ink dots in areas of shadow or small amounts in areas of light shadow. The beads, when created for shadows, teach finite control over the shadowing. The Sharpies seem to hold up the best for the repeated use, and the paper will be thicker and more resistant to smearing or tearing. My students need to use those suitable quality materials to see the control, precise nature of the stippling and to watch the excellent quality addition to their creativity. The rulers are needed for a class set to ensure the borders on the work are crisp and even. They will also use them in many future projects, including our Grid Drawings coming up soon.
