As a special education teacher, I teach a diverse population of students. The supports needed vary for each student based on their abilities and individual needs. Many of my students read well below grade level and require questions, passages, and stories read aloud for comprehension. Having headphones for my students allows those with lower reading skills to have questions or books read aloud to them during independent tasks or tests. The use of read aloud books is a necessity in my classroom and having headphones will increase student productivity. My students also require a lot of movement breaks and redirection. Students ask daily for a fidget to use while they are learning. It keeps them relaxed and their attention on the material. The use of focus fidgets allows students to follow along with the lesson while using a tool to remain on task and be present. Instead of students taking breaks outside of the classroom or at a back table, students are able to work from their desks and refocus on the lesson.
