More and more, my students are becoming independent makers. They are beginning to take initiative and expand on their own creative ideas. This includes fiber art. I would like to give those students, who are excelling in independent making, the opportunity to learn a wider variety of art materials, including different types of looms. Currently, my middle school group of sixth, seventh, and eighth graders are preparing for a somewhat independent project. For our independent projects, many students have expressed interest in weaving and fibers, including our young sixth grade girl who seems to have taken her obsession with weaving in stride. These looms would make an impact on our art room for years to come! Many of our students will continue to have art throughout their time with us. This makes me hopeful for a more diverse classroom filled with lots of different materials for our students to use!
