When students come to the Calm Down Room, a variety of strategies and materials are made available to help students self-regulate to be able to re-engage in learning in the classroom environment. The light covers will provide gentle lighting with a sky scene. The clock and timers help students understand time management and expected return to class time. Students seek out help to CALM DOWN when overstimulated to the level of frustration, disengagement, and loss of concentration. Students will be able to choose an item and/or strategy which best suits them in self-regulating. These varied materials increase the opportunity to refocus, re-engage and return to learning. Our students need opportunities to have the power to make positive decisions to impact their learning.
