I want to build a library in my classroom that will feature books that my students will want to read during their free time because they can directly relate with the main characters or learn from their experiences. Books in the curriculum often do not represent my students and because of this, they do not want to connect with novels outside of school. Many of the books on the list will feature main characters who represent the class whether that is a story focused on people of color or the LGBTQ community.
