My students are a mixture of races and have a variety of family situations. Many have a large number of people living in a small apartment or house. Most do not have their own room or quiet place in which to complete their homework or read. The area in which my school is located consists of many older home and apartments of which a large number are subsidized housing. Most parents have not completed school beyond about 10th grade.
