My students are preschoolers that range in ages 3-5. They are in a Special Day Class and have different disabilities, needs and levels of skills. Most of them are non-verbal but enjoy music and pictures. They are learning classroom routines and rules and are beginning to follow a 1-step direction such as putting away their own backpacks or simply pushing a chair to circle time. They are also learning how to sit longer during circle time. They like music and books and participate by using gestures and musical instruments. Some may need more assistance than others but are showing progress and enthusiasm in learning. Our student population is drawn from a lower socio-economic status and families who are English-language learners. Our school is one of the schools that lack necessary materials and resources and rely mainly on donations from parents, community partnerships and limited fund raising opportunities.
