The purpose of this project is to provide an anti-racism timeline. My students are currently looking at and correcting the biases they have in their hearts and minds about their own race and other races. The work of challenging racism and anti-racism in the school system is to make it a more equitable environment by looking at the history where racist thoughts began. The students are able to dispel and uproot inappropriate thoughts and opinions that they have and other have about people who are not like them. The students will be creating individual and as a class a 12 ft long timeline. The purpose of the timeline is to help the students remove misconceptions and beliefs that one may have. They will do this by looking at the start of racism and different events that led up to where we are today. Students will be conducting research and using the book Stamped as a guide for this project. I have requested a printer, laminator, and thermal pouches so my students can make a statement with our timeline!
