Literature is a part of our everyday routine. Our students are highly motivated by challenges that are placed before them and by a bit of friendly competition. We are seeking funding to purchase a small group set of books for each book on the Battle of the Books list. Battle of the Books is a competition in which groups of three to five students answer quiz bowl-style questions covering a 10-book list These book sets will help our students train for Battle of the Books and improve their reading comprehension skills. Books on the list cover a variety of topics, emphasizing diversity, understanding, and inclusion. The books on the list also will give students an opportunity to read stories about kids experiencing situations similar to their own. Doing novel studies involves students having rich conversations about the text and making connections. Several reading groups will have the opportunity to read these books. After our students are finished using the set, we plan to store them in the school’s book room so other reading small groups will have the chance to enjoy them as well. We know these book sets will help to motivate our students to dive deeper into the world of literature!
