Students need to be hydrated! Here is Honolulu, Hawaii, the average temperature is 85 degrees, and middle school students are in their growth spurts. They enjoy playing outside during the recess time, they just feel tired due to the hormonal changes, they are always thirsty. But there is a challenge: due to pandemic, students are not allowed to drink straight out of water fountains on campus. They are encouraged to bring their own water bottles; some do, but many don't or can't. They would ask any staff on campus to see if we have any paper cups so that they can drink water. There have been increased amount of trash of paper cups on campus as they would dispose after just one drink.
I, therefore, see the need for all students to have their own water bottles for two reasons: one, for student to have easy access for hydration; two, to reduce the amount of trash by reducing the usage of disposal paper cups.
I am representing the 8th grade and I hope to support all 8th graders for easy access to hydration, as well as helping them understand that reusable bottles will be a great help for the environment we live in.
