Recess, physical education and other opportunities for physical activity during school have been proven to boost student learning and overall well-being. Our students were extremely limited last year during recess and P.E. due to COVID restrictions. They were unable to share equipment and play fun and active games. Now that many of the restrictions have been lifted, I hope to provide each classroom teacher with his or her own recess bin so our students can enjoy recess again. The bins will have playground balls, footballs, jump ropes, and more. Playground balls are versatile and allow students to participate in a variety of activities like 4-Square, kickball, and soccer. Not only are these activities exciting, but they also help students build critical social skills. Our students love football, so one football per class goes a long way! Jumping rope is the perfect fitness activity for recess. Students love to jump rope individually or with friends. The best part about these activities is that students are improving their strength and endurance and they often don't even realize it! Providing students with daily physical activities that are fun and engaging not only boosts academic achievement, it also improves the physical, social, and emotional well-being of our students. Kids have gone through a lot during the pandemic. The materials I chose for my project will help to motivate students to come to school each day. Students will also have a much needed break to take part in quality physical activities so they can ultimately make the most of their educational experience.
