One of the recurring conversations we have as a club happens at the intersection of the Asian experience with the American experience. A common feeling that arises is “being too Asian” while simultaneously “not being Asian enough.” The student leaders of this club want to use Crying in H Mart as a tool and talking point. Michelle Zauner’s memoir explores many of the topics that they also feel and experience in their day to day life. In this project, students will engage with an Asian American multi-disciplinary artist’s portrayal of their cultural connection through joy and grief. This club, and this project in particular, is working to spotlight stories and voices that have been historically marginalized.
