Most of my students do not have regular exposure to books and stories outside of the classroom. Most of them have never had the opportunity to travel outside of their neighborhood or city to experience the world around them. As an individual who is passionate about reading and adventure, I want to help inspire my students to develop the same passion. Numerous studies have shown that a child who is exposed to books and reading at an early age will have the opportunity to develop foundational reading skills that will aid them academically, personally, and professionally for the rest of their lives. Studies suggest that those who read are able to make sense of their lives through reading stories; it helps them connect to the world around them. Reading also helps to build vocabulary, which helps students become better writers.
