My students spent some time at the start of this school year exploring their reading interests and identities. We are setting ourselves up to be a community of readers in the 7th grade and learned how to recommend books and find new options to read. Using the recommendations of peers, they compiled a long wish list of books to add to our library! While we are lucky enough to have many book choices in my classroom already, high interest genres like manga and anime-inspired books are lacking. The students are also highly interested in books that discuss issues of social justice, like The Hate You Give. This project will help round out my library to include the titles on their wish list!
