Rekenreks are used to help develop addition and subtraction strategies, such as doubling or finding near doubles as well as thinking in terms of 5s and 10s, instead of counting from one each time or counting on in addition and subtraction. It resembles a modern day abacus and makes learning fun and engaging, especially for the little ones! Students gain fluency as they work towards becoming grade level proficient. Hence, their successes allow them to move away from having fixed mindsets thereby opening a world of opportunities reinforced by their growth mindset mentality.

About my class
