Flexible seating allows students to take ownership of their learning and engage in a place that feels comfortable for them. Currently, my students are spreading out on the floor or moving to different tables to take charge of their seating. I'd like to make independent reading, one of the most important parts of our day, something to look forward to with comfortable, flexible seating. My classroom includes students with different learning needs, including students on the Autism Spectrum. A cozy classroom environment with relaxing, quiet nooks will allow these students to feel more comfortable and productive at school. The addition of a rug to my classroom will allow me to further engage students in small group lessons, partner talk, or read aloud novels. Also included in my order is a set of guided reading books for beginning readers - this reflects my classroom's wide range of needs. I have students that are emerging readers and bilinguals that need books at their level. Overall, these materials will allow my classroom to be more inclusive and comfortable for my students.
