These capes will be the motivation my students need while we are quarantined right now to fulfill our individual reading goals. Our school has unfotunately been shut down due to high levels of positive and quarantined students. As a veteran teacher who is back in the classroom after 12 years of being a military wife, I was looking for ways to motivate my students to READ, READ, READ! Students will set their own "just right" goals for how many books they will read this year in five different genres. Students will keep track of their progress on printable book spines, which will be posted in the classroom or on a Jamboard online. Once a student has reached their reading goal, they will be awarded their "Super Student" cape. This project came about organically from my classes as we were discussing our class moto this year..."Knowledge is power!" The students said I would be a super teacher if they gave me more knowledge about themselves and asked if they would then be super students. They were all very excited about this idea...which gave me the idea for goal setting.
