So many of my students are struggling with finding books that they are interested in. Research shows the more independent reading students do, the more they learn and grow. After learning how to pick books they are interested in, our class continued to struggle saying that they can't find books in the classroom that they like. I had each student write down their top 3 series or genres that they would like to see in the classroom and graphic novels was the top genre among them all. The series that were the most popular included Geronimo Stilton books, Amulet, Dog Man, and Big Nate. If I can get these books in their hands, I believe they will show grow as readers and start discussing what they are reading.
