At my school, art supplies are funded solely by donations. As a result of the pandemic, many families have found it difficult to provide money to help fund supplies. To make an upcoming unit on Pop Art more engaging, my students would love the opportunity to use vibrant and unique art supplies. Pop Art is a well-known style of art first introduced in the 1950s by the artist Andy Warhol. This art is known for taking well-known, everyday subjects and adding a "POP" quality to them with bright colors. This style of art became popular for its simple nature and ease of production. The gel plates I am requesting for my project will be used to create vibrant backgrounds for the subjects of students' Pop Art. Students will learn the basics of printmaking and will be able to quickly create multiple unique monoprints using the same gel plate. The subjects students choose for their Pop Art will be drawn on separate paper and colored using Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils. Prismacolor pencils have a rich, vibrant quality that will help make their artwork "pop." Upon completion of the colored subject matter, students will cut and collage to the gel plate-printed background. Student work will be hung throughout the school for everyone to enjoy. The vibrant, exciting Pop Art is sure to make anyone's day brighter!
