Our classroom does not have a library. My students are in a dual language program in which the goal is to become biliterate in Spanish and in English. Access to books is essential for students to have in order to develop the foundational skills in both languages. In order to do that, students need multiple exposures to a variety of books with rich language.READING is fundamental to their learning. I plan to create a bilingual library in order to allow students to read independently during literacy centers. In addition, students will be allowed to check out books to take home and read as part of their daily homework.
The donations to this project will help students develop their cultural identities as bilinguals and make them aware that their languages are of equal value and importance when it comes to learning.
In addition, students will have access to books that will increase their language development skills in English and in Spanish. Students will become academically successful when building connections between two languages.
