With these diverse and inclusive titles, my students will begin to see themselves, their culture, and their identity in the books they read. My students have taught me the importance of seeing themselves in the characters they read and the impact and implications it can have if they are unable to. As educators, it is our job to build a classroom environment where everyone feels welcome. This project will not only allow my students access to diverse text but the bookshelf will allow me to display them front and center!
