Acquiring literacy skills help children's speech, language, and communication throughout their childhood, in varying ways. Targeting literature-based goals in speech and language intervention will also help students become lifelong learners by expanding both their word and world knowledge. While it may be challenging for the students at times, it is important to establish a culture that shares the belief that we cannot foster independence and self-advocacy when we do not provide students with opportunities to practice these skills. Therefore, using books and magazine articles in therapy will not only accomplish their current academic goals but enrich their minds to accomplish their own life goals.
