My school's student body is made up of many under privileged individuals. I am building a student media group to allow more of the student body to get involved with current events on the school campus and in our town. Many student are interested in technology but do not have the means to buy their own equipment Therefore, I am hoping to provide them with the equipment at school so they can become familiar with it in a school setting while becoming better prepared for the digital world that awaits them after high school.
I am also creating a classroom that looks very much like a TV set and interview area so the students can learn how to ask others questions and communicate while documenting information in an organized, interview style setting. I feel that traditional desks and tables are not the best furniture to create the environment for a student media group. They need the classroom to be functional while also inviting for those they will interview.
The studio media group will also attend different school activities and sports on and off campus. The media team will bring back information and record a "news report" for the school each week. The students will also take still shots with a camera to add slides to the "rolling slide show" that is on loop all day in the commons area of the high school.
