I like to make my classroom feel like a home. Most students need to find a place in school where they feel safe and comfortable. I like them to think that about my room. I like them to join me for lunch, which is when we have really meaningful conversations, they make plans and share goals. Being a teenager in this day and age is difficult, but when they know there is a place they can go to find support and encouragement, things feel much easier and better. I am trying to complete an area of flexible seating where they can have good discussions, learn, and do their homework. I like to keep snacks for them because I know that most of them don't get enough food. These items will complete my classroom and I will be set to offer them what they deserve. The goal is to supplement their performance by having a place where I can provide tutoring lessons, help to complete assessments and encourage them to be the best they can be.
