My school has very few instruments, with almost no melodic instruments in the room. With COVID, a lot of resources for elementary music classes have been limited. Singing is also limited by the district this year to avoid the spread of COVID between students. A lot of my students have expressed interest in learning stringed instruments. I thought that ukuleles would be a perfect beginning stringed instrument for them to learn and incorporate melodic training safely. The ukuleles would help students learn pitches and hear what different notes sound like as we limit ourselves on singing. Older students would learn how to play the instruments, while the younger students might use them for smaller beat and rhythm games.
