My students are incredibly thoughtful and care about the world around them. However, these students need to be prepared for the world around them and to become civically engaged after high school. These students are the future leaders and need to become engaged citizens of the world. Most of the class novels that are in the library/English Department are from the classical, but traditional cannon. The students deserve to see themselves in the novels they read and to have someone speak to them and treat them like adults. They deserve the chance to feel like they matter and to have their voices heard.
