I teach Spanish for heritage speakers to 200 from over 6+ different Spanish-speaking countries. Many have traveled great distances on their own in search of greater opportunities and stability. I want to create an environment in my classroom that will make them feel safe and secure. Moreover, I want to make my environment culturally enriching. The books selected are books that can have them relate and reflect on their experiences and have my students see that their journey moving forward will be a positive one. These books are age-appropriate, engaging and impactful. We have a small library with 4 sets of books but I am working hard to provide more books that are relatable to my exceptional students. I know they would be very excited to read these books.

About my class
