Students will be able to use the graphic novel version of the larger text to understand what is happening in the story The Hobbit. Because this text provides a visual medium, students will be able to read the text independently, giving them an opportunity to be self-directed learners. Furthermore, if students are exposed to the graphic novel version of this text, they may be more inclined to either read the longer, traditional format of the text or read other graphic novels. The aim of English instruction is always to create life-long readers and writers.
